Spring Fling Is In The Books!

It was great to see all the neighbors who came out for an overcast but fun day at LILA this past Saturday. Thank you to LILA for graciously hosting again and to CD4 for their support. Congratulations to all the winners of the first FHRA raffle. Hope everyone had a good time and we’ll see you in October for the Block Party!

Vandals Tear Down Pride Flags On Multiple Nights From Shakespeare Bridge

UPDATE: After several nights of having the Pride decorations vandalized FHRA reached out the media and KTLA visited Los Feliz to report on the the rash of anti-LGBTQ activity on the bridge and in the Los Angeles area. A neighbor was able to get video of a black SUV that may have been involved. The LAPD has been informed and hopefully this will aid in catching the culprits and curtailing this destructive and hateful behavior. Link to KTLA KCAL

We've always been proud that Franklin Hills is such a caring, considerate and inclusive community. We show this by decorating the Shakespeare Bridge through out the year.

Sadly, our efforts to communicate that publicly -- by decorating the Shakespeare Bridge with flags celebrating LGBTQ Pride Month and Juneteenth -- were blocked by vandals who began to remove the flags just hours after we hung them.

Fortunately, an alert neighbor stopped them from tearing down all the flags at that time. But the remaining flags were stolen Monday night.

On the positive side, neighbors have offered to purchase new flags and help to re-hang them.

Please be alert to any destructive activity on the Bridge and, if you see anything, contact us at fhra@franklinhills.org.

Let's not let haters win!

Chris Boutelle Plaque Dedication

We had a wonderful turn out for the permanent plaque installed on the Shakespeare Bridge to commemorate Chris Boutelle’s life and work for the community. Chris’s nephew, Nick Di Fruscia shared his gratitude for the efforts by all those involved in getting the plaque through the city planning process. FHRA president, Alison Wallace spoke about all of Chris’ work with the organization and the neighborhood and the the mark he left on all of our lives. CD4 Councilperson, Nithya Raman graciously attended and spoke on behalf of the district about Chris’ long history in Los Feliz and the Franklin Hills and all the wonderful memories people who knew him had shared with her. Thank you all who attended and when ever you cross the bridge take a minute to stop and read the plaque and think of Chris.

FHRA Teams Up With L.A. Conservation Corps To Tidy Up Garden

FHRA reached out to CD4 and the LA Conservation Corps to tidy up the lesser known Shakespeare Garden under our landmark bridge. FHRA is responsible for designing and maintaining the Franklin Ave median but we are also committed to maintaining the small garden under the bridge. Thank you for the hard work, LA Conservation Corps and helping us keep our community looking good!

Before: The little garden was getting pretty overgrown and needed some love.

After: All trimmed back and cleaned up!

'Tis The Season

It was a big weekend for the FHRA kicking off the holidays by decorating our favorite bridge! The lights are up and so is the cheer! Also, keep an eye out for the new issue of The Overview with a beautiful rendition of the Shakespeare Bridge on the cover by local artist MJ Collin and all sorts of stories about our lovely neighborhood’s history. Happy Holidays!

FHRA 2nd Annual Halloween Block Party a Big Success

Our expectations were surpassed this year with an unbelievable turn out for the Block Party! Radio Street turned out to be the perfect location for the festivities and our new board member, Cindy Solovei was gracious enough to offer her amazing patio for the wine grotto where Bonny Doon Vineyard donated a wonderful selection of wines from their Santa Cruz winery. Thanks to all the volunteers, bands (Sage and Fool and Dagnasterpus) and the wonderful Franklin Hills neighbors for making this year’s event and overwhelming success.
